The Agnidhara are a rare and near-extinct lineage native to the Kingdom of Banditry on Talia, distinguished by their latent draconic heritage and an internal heat that no wasteland wind has ever managed to extinguish. In an era that reduced entire civilisations to ash, the Agnidhara endured for a thousand years — not through conquest, but through concealment, tradition, and a quiet refusal to let the fire go cold.

Origins

The precise history of the Agnidhara has long since dissolved into the dust storms of Talia. What remains is a lineage mythology: that their ancestors were not wholly human, but carried the blood of the ancient dragons that once breathed life into the desert itself. According to their own oral tradition, these dragons did not rule or destroy — they sustained, their fire forming the invisible warmth beneath the sand that allowed anything to grow in a world that should have been lifeless.

By the time of the modern era, the dragons themselves had become myths, and the Agnidhara were regarded as little more than a curiosity by the bandits and warlords who carved up the Kingdom. Yet the blood remained. In every generation, children were born with a warmth beneath their skin that had no medical explanation — a heat that intensified under emotion, that made their eyes shimmer, and that occasionally cracked through the surface in moments of extreme duress.

Physical Traits

The Agnidhara appear entirely human under ordinary circumstances. Their draconic nature is not visible so much as felt — a faint warmth radiating from their skin, a shimmer in their gaze when emotions run high, and a tendency for the air around them to feel slightly charged, like the moment before a desert lightning strike.

Under sufficient emotional intensity or sustained use of their power, the latent dragon blood surfaces physically in a sequence of escalating manifestations:

• Stage One — A deep inner heat becomes externally perceptible. The skin takes on a subtle luminescence and the eyes shift in colour. At this stage, the Agnidhara is still indistinguishable from a human at a glance.
• Stage Two — Draconic horns emerge from the skull, ranging from small ridged nubs in children to pronounced curved structures in adults. This stage typically accompanies intense concentration or the onset of combat readiness.
• Stage Three — A tail forms, adding both physical balance and a visible increase in the aura of heat around the individual. At this stage the Agnidhara's power output increases substantially.
• Stage Four (Full Manifestation) — Large, functional wings unfurl from the back, and the individual's body radiates intense heat visible to the naked eye. This form represents a true awakening of the ancient dragon blood — difficult to trigger, difficult to control, and usually accompanied by a profound emotional event.

The Agnidhara who have reached Stage Four describe the experience as being ejected by their own power rather than choosing to transform — a distinction that hints at just how instinctive and overwhelming the process is.

The Hidden Track

Beyond the visible fire, certain Agnidhara possess a secondary ability known within the lineage as the Hidden Track — a resonance seated in the voice rather than the body. Where most draconic traits express themselves through heat and physical force, the Hidden Track manifests as a primal vibration that can make the very air tremble, shatter glass, and in its most developed form, produce a sound-based force capable of affecting the battlefield at a fundamental level.

The Hidden Track is considered the rarest and most sacred expression of Agnidhara heritage. It does not appear in every member of the lineage, and those who carry it are said to be particularly close to the ancient dragons' original nature — beings whose power was generative rather than destructive, whose fire took the form of a song rather than a flame.

Philosophy and Culture

The Agnidhara were not warriors by nature, though the world of Talia eventually shaped them into capable fighters. Their foundational philosophy, passed down through oral tradition and combat forms alike, was one of preservation over aggression:

"We do not strike to take. We strike to preserve the heat when the world turns cold."

This principle informed everything from their combat style — the First Draw, a technique emphasising decisive, minimal force rather than sustained pressure — to their approach to living in the Kingdom of Banditry. The Agnidhara did not attempt to carve out territory or accumulate power. They kept to a secluded oasis, away from the bandit roads and the endless wars of the wasteland, and they endured by being invisible.

Music and oral tradition were central to Agnidhara culture. Their history was not written down but sung — kept alive in melodies that carried both practical memory (raiding patterns, safe routes, names of allies and enemies) and emotional history (the texture of the desert at dusk, the sound of the oasis at night). To lose a song was to lose a piece of the lineage itself. To be described as "the last verse of a song played for a thousand years" was the most profound acknowledgement of an Agnidhara's place within their people.

The Fall of Talia

The Agnidhara's long endurance came to an end when catastrophe struck the Kingdom of Banditry in the event known as the Great Raid — or, in some accounts, the Great Blast. The precise nature of the event varies in telling, but the outcome was consistent: an apocalyptic collapse of the wasteland's already fragile balance, during which the Agnidhara oasis was destroyed and nearly the entire lineage was lost.

The sky did not turn black when it ended. Survivors describe it as turning a bruised, radioactive red — a colour that has since become associated with the end of an era, and with the Agnidhara's grief.

Those few who escaped did so through the awakening of their Stage Four power under extreme emotional duress — their grief and fury tearing through the suppression of a lifetime and launching them into the sky before they could be consumed. Whether this constitutes survival or transformation depends on who is telling the story.
